Sporting events such as the Olympics have a major impact on countries’ house prices, which could be great news for those with Brazilian property.

Ya’el Geffen, writing for Real Estate Web, has highlighted the fact that past form has shown that the local area always receives a boost from this kind of tournament.

She said that, in 2002, Paris experienced a 55 per cent boost in the year around the World Cup, with those properties located close to the venue experiencing a 100 per cent hike in value.

"Investment in real estate has been rising in Brazil since 2008 and there have been significant increases in land speculation, which have increased residential property prices by ten to 20 per cent."
